Spring Severe Weather Awareness Week, Mitigation Planning

BATAVIA, OHIO (March 19, 2026) - With the pending arrival of spring, the Board of Commissioners has designated March 15 - 21 as Severe Weather Awareness Week in Clermont County. The county proclamation coincides with Gov. Mike DeWine's statewide designation.

Visit the county's Emergency Management Agency website for tips on how to prepare for spring thunderstorms, high winds, tornadoes and flooding. Residents also are encouraged to register for alerts via the National Weather Service to receive timely updates during weather events specific to your location.

In addition to preparing for severe seasonal weather, the county EMA coordinates with local jurisdictions to develop and maintain a detailed Hazard Mitigation Plan for emergencies of all types. The county is currently updating its plan and is seeking public input on it.

The public is invited to review the draft plan and share feedback through April 14.

Hard copies of the plan and survey also are available at all 10 Clermont County Libraries and on the third floor of the County Administration Building at 101 E. Main St., Batavia.

The plan is a joint effort by local cities, townships, villages and county agencies. Local jurisdictions must update the plan every five years to remain eligible for pre-disaster and post-disaster mitigation grants. The existing plan for Clermont County was adopted in 2020.
