New Richmond, Ohio (Sept. 12, 2025) – Renown artist Scott Hagan has put the finishing touches on Clermont County’s newest mural honoring the upcoming 250th birthday of the United States. The depiction of President and Gen. Ulysses S. Grant took shape this week on Front Street in the Village of New Richmond.
Check out this time-lapse video of Hagan painting the mural, which is displayed on the wall of the New Richmond Military Museum.
Grant was born in nearby Point Pleasant in 1822. He is being recognized as part of the celebration honoring America’s founding in 1776 because of his critical role to preserve the nation nearly 100 years later. As commanding general during the U.S. Civil War, Grant led the Union Army to victory in 1865. He subsequently served as the 18th president of the United States from 1869 to 1877 and is credited with stabilizing the postwar economy and supporting the 15th Amendment that protected voting rights for African Americans.
Known as The Barn Artist, Hagan made a reputation for himself in the early 2000s by painting the state’s bicentennial logo on barns in all 88 counties across Ohio.
Several other America 250-themed murals have already been dedicated – one in Miami Township, another in Bethel and a barn in Williamsburg Township that was also painted by Hagan.
Coming soon: Murals on landmark buildings in Williamsburg, Milford, Loveland and Union Township.
