BATAVIA, Ohio (Feb. 26, 2015) – At their Feb. 25 session, Clermont County Commissioners recognized Micha Brumbaugh, a 12th grade student at New Richmond High School, for submitting the winning artwork in 2015’s Spring Litter Clean-Up T-shirt and poster design contest. Her artwork was selected out of 22 other designs.

Each year, hundreds of volunteers participate in the Spring Litter Clean-Up to help keep parkland areas and local streams free of litter and debris.

Edwin Humphrey, President of the Board of County Commissioners, presented Micha with a certificate recognizing her achievement. Paul Braasch, Director of the Office of Environmental Quality, presented her with a $200 cash prize provided by event sponsors. “It’s great to see a local student recognized for her artwork promoting an event that is so important to our community,” said Humphrey.

Micha said she loves art, and especially likes working with pencils and graphite. Environmental concerns are important to her. “Preserving habitats for animals, making the earth cleaner and safer,” she said. Her teacher, Amy Hauserman, said, “Micha is a talented young artist who has taken three and a half years of art at New Richmond High School.  She spent several hours developing her winning design for the contest.”

Micha has been accepted into the U.S. Navy’s nuclear engineering program, and will begin school in Charleston, S.C., after she graduates from New Richmond.

This was the first year for the contest, which any K-12 student attending a school located in Clermont County and the East Fork Watershed could enter. The winning design will be incorporated into promotional materials associated with the event, which will be held 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, April 18, at various locations throughout Clermont County and the East Fork Watershed. The event is coordinated each year by the East Fork Watershed Collaborative (Clermont SWCD) and Valley View Foundation, in partnership with many other agencies and organizations.
