September is National Preparedness Month – Resolve to Be Prepared

September is National Preparedness Month.   Resolve to be prepared by learning valuable safety skills.  Learning safety skills will enable you to help yourself, your family, and your community during times of emergency.

Learn first aid and CPR – Knowing basic first aid and CPR is a great skill to possess.  The practice of these life safety skills can make the difference between life or death.  It is one of the best things you can learn to help protect your family, friends, and community.

Learn to use a fire extinguisher – People often panic during a fire, so taking the time now to familiarize yourself with the different types of fire extinguishers and their proper usage can prove to be invaluable later.

When using a fire extinguisher, use the PASS method:

o   Pull the pin

o   Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire

o   Squeeze the handle

o   Sweep from side to side
