Batavia, OH – A special salute to our veterans, troops, and their families will kick-off the Clermont County Fair on Sunday, July 21, at 6:00 p.m. in the grandstands. This event is free and open to the public. Commissioner Bob Proud is asking citizens to show their support for local military by inviting friends and family to join him as he hosts the ceremony. Proud stated, “Help honor our military and their families by attending this special event and be sure to invite all your family and friends. God bless America, our military, and their families!”

This year the keynote speaker will be Congressman Brad Wenstrup. Wenstrup was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge for his service and actions in Iraq and continues his service in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel. “It is fitting that as we honor the many veterans of Clermont County, we will welcome a new group of men and women who are likewise committed to service above self. I am honored to be a part of the ceremony,” said Wenstrup. Wenstrup will administer the recruit swearing in ceremony, where each branch of the armed services will publicly take the Oath of Enlistment. “The Clermont County Fair always places a high priority on supporting and recognizing our service members, this is a wonderful opportunity and I am grateful to play a small part this year,” added Wenstrup.

The military salute event is organized by Clermont Commissioner Bob Proud, in coordination with the Clermont Veterans’ Services Commission (VSC), and the Clermont County Senior Fair Board. “Bob Proud has always been a dear friend to our local veterans. I do not know of anyone more deserving or dedicated than Commissioner Proud to the veterans cause,” said Howard Daugherty, Executive Director of VSC. “By attending the salute ceremony at the Clermont County Fair, you are honoring not only veterans but all those serve our country!” The VSC of Clermont County is a resourceful tool used to help veterans receive benefits they earned while serving in the U.S. military. There will be a staff member available to answer questions at the VSC booth each day of the fair.

All veterans, active military personnel and their family members will be recognized during the event, along with the Gold Star Families. Patriotic music is also planned for the event. During fair week, current and former members of the Armed Forces are admitted free with military identification. The fair runs through July 27 and the Clermont County Fairgrounds is located at 1000 Locust Street in Owensville.
