On Friday, July 12, the Board of Directors of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio (CCAO) selected Suzanne Dulaney as their new Executive Director . Dulaney succeeds Larry Long, who recently retired after 40 years of exemplary service. With the recommendation of the Executive Committee, the board unanimously selected Ms. Dulaney.
President of the Board of Clermont County Commissioners, Ed Humphrey, serves on the CCAO Board of Directors. Humphrey made the motion for her selection. “Ms. Dulaney is highly qualified and in her earlier career served as a Policy Analyst for CCAO. We look forward to her leadership,” said Humphrey. Humphrey believes Dulaney’s diverse background will serve the association well in moving forward.
Suzanne Dulaney is a native of Butler County. Dulaney currently serves as the Associate Executive Director of the Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities where she is in charge of legal and legislative affairs. Dulaney obtained her law degree with a concentration in governmental affairs from Capital University and her undergraduate degree in political science from Miami University.
She has 18 years of experience working with the Ohio General Assembly and 14 years working in non-profit trade associations. Her appointment is a homecoming of sorts as she previously served CCAO as a Senior Policy Analyst for CCAO from 1999-2006, specializing in health and human service programs.
According to Gary Lee, CCAO President and a Union County Commissioner, Dulaney’s appointment followed an extensive search for qualified candidates. “Suzanne clearly came to the top of the list during our selection process. She has the knowledge, work ethic, and passion for public service that will move our Association forward during these challenging times for local government.”
Debbie Lieberman, a Montgomery County Commissioner and the Immediate Past President of the organization, added that she “is looking forward to working with Suzanne as we move forward to find new ways to enhance and improve the way county governments serves the citizens of Ohio.”
The County Commissioners Association of Ohio is an Association that represents Ohio’s county commissioners, county elected executives, and county council members before the General Assembly, state agencies, and Congress. The Association also provides a variety of technical assistance, training, and business services to Ohio’s county governments, including two major insurance programs that have stabilized county government property, liability and health insurance costs and provide comprehensive coverage.
The Association has a staff of 30 persons. Dulaney will assume the new position on August 5.
