Batavia, Ohio. Your garden has been producing lots of great fruits and vegetables this summer, so why not freeze or can some of your bounty for future enjoyment? Imagine sharing your delicious green beans, tomatoes, and homemade jam with friends during the cold weather months when fresh items are in short supply! Freezing and canning is not only a fun family activity, it can save you money! The Ohio State University (OSU) Extension-Clermont will present Preserving the Harvest food preservation workshop on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the OSU Extension-Clermont office, located at the Clermont County Fairgrounds, 1000 Locust Street in Owensville.
“Canning, freezing, and drying are safe and economical ways to preserve quality food at home,” said OSU Extension-Clermont Family and Consumer Sciences Educator Margaret Jenkins, who will present the workshop. “The basics of home preservation will be covered during the class and those attending will receive hands-on practice canning, and can take a sample of the finished product home.”
