Immediate Release
July 7, 2009
Batavia, Ohio. “We expect upwards of 100,000 people to visit the fair this year,” said Clermont Fair Board President Bill Scharber. “It’s a budget friendly place to take the family with lots to see and do. For just $10 a day, those over the age of four get into the fairgrounds, park the car, and enjoy all the exhibits and grand- stand shows, and try out most of the midway rides.” The 160th edition of the Clermont County Fair will be held at the fairgrounds in Owensville July 26-August 1, 2009; the fairgrounds will be open 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. each day and is located at 1000 Locust Street in Owensville.
“As usual the fair begins with the annual Stonelick Township Firefighters Parade through Owensville,” said Scharber. The parade, on Sunday, July 26, begins at 1 p.m.; this year the grand marshal is long time fair supporter Harold Herron.
“New at the fair this year is the Hank Peters Lumberjack Show that features log rolling competitions and ax throwing,” said Scharber. “The Ohio State Tractor Pullers Association will put on a program at the grandstand on Monday of fair week, and there will be a truck and van demolition derby joining the popular annual car derbies this year.” Scharber says new restroom facilities will be available this year and by the 2010 fair, a new equestrian center should be open.
The fair also includes a horseshoe tournament, floral design shows, a cutest baby contest, a karaoke competition, hog calling contest, lots of live music, and a cheerleading competition. Wednesday, July 29 is Senior Day at the fair ($3 admission for those 60 and up), and Thursday is Veterans Day (all current or former members of our Armed Forces are free all week, with a military ID). On Thursday, July 30, a Salute to Veterans and Our Troops will be held at the grandstand beginning at 6:30 p.m., organized by Clermont Commissioner Bob Proud.
