Clermont County Love Your Dog-Buy a License Winners Announced
Batavia, Ohio. The Board of Clermont County Commissioners (BCC) will recognize winners of the first annual Love Your Dog-Buy a License competition on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 10 a.m. BCC session. The awards presentation will be held in the third floor session room of the Clermont County Administration Building, located at 101 East Main Street in Batavia.
The competition sponsored by the BCC, Clermont County Humane Society, and the Educational Service Center invited students to submit essays, posters, and public service announcements designed to draw attention to the importance of dog licensing.
"The winners produced some outstanding work," said Clermont County Commissioner Mary Walker. "They did a lot of research and submitted entries that were well thought out and very creative. We will be displaying the posters at our offices, and the public service announcement will air on local cable access television."
The winners of the electronic media category are Adam Kahny (first place) from Goshen Middle School and Jordan Webb (second place) from Goshen Middle School. In the poster category, Theresa Ruwe, a home school student, won first place and Rebecca Perkins from Goshen Middle School won second place. Bethany Barnes of Goshen Middle School took first place in the poetry category. In the writing division, home school student Maria Ruwe won first place and Alex Huffman of Goshen Middle School won second place.
In Clermont County last year 18,146 dogs were licensed; this number represents only a small portion of the dogs actually living in the county. Dog licensing is the law, and without one, a lost dog may never be reunited with the owner; monies collected from licensing supports the Clermont County Humane Society in housing unwanted animals.
